The Alloa Coaching Day - December 2009
Both teams from Barrhead United made a visit to Alloa's Recreation Park on Saturday 12th December for a day of coaching and to take in the SFL Division 2 match between Alloa Athletic and Brechin City. On what started a foggy day, the sun finally broke through as the players took to the pitch for a session with the Alloa coaches prior to the match.
With a total of 30 players and almost as many Club officials and parents in attendance we had a very successful day and first and foremost, we would like to thank Alloa Athletic for what turned out to be a fantastic day for all of the Barrhead group. With Alloa coaches now supplementing the coaching being provided by Barrhead United at least once per month, this can only help our players development.

We would particulary like to thank Hugh McCann and his Coaching staff who took the time to provide our players with an extremely educational and fun coaching period during the day. Our own Barrhead United coaches are learning a huge amount from these guys which can also only help with our own Club development. Thanks again to all concerned !!

Alloa Athletic 2 - 1 Brechin City
After the training sessions completed, and the players were suitably fed (I don't think pie and hot-dogs are mentioned on the nutrition pages but we will let a minor disgression go un-noticed), we took to our seats in the stand to watch what turned out to be a keenly contested match, with Alloa running out winners by 2 -1, with all three goals coming in a very entertaining second half, which saw a screamer by Scott Agnew hit the top corner and a penalty chance missed by Brechin.

I think everyone associated with Barrhead United will agree that the hospitality and expertise extended to the Club on the day were first class and greatly appreciated by players, Club officials and parents alike. We are starting to really see the benefits of what our partnership with Alloa can bring and the Club is going from strength to strength.
Lastly, we would really like to thank all of the Parents who took the time to come along and support their children and Alloa FC. On what was a very cold day we really appreciated those of you who took your cars up to Alloa and gave various people a lift. From the two teams a special mention goes to the following people: -
1998's
Special thanks to all of the 1998 age group parents, many of whom brought their cars. The previous Wednesday we also had great help from Jim Wiseman, Alan Hood, Craig Laing and Brian Hughes in getting the players up to Alloa for training, so thank you for that in particular !!
2002's
John Finnigan for taking his minibus on Saturday (we sincerely hope your ears are on the mend soon after the battering they must have taken from the players in the bus). Special thanks as well to Graeme Salmond, Derek Cairns and "Curny" for taking their cars !!
For all parents, your continued support for what we are trying to achieve at Barrhead United is very much appreciated. We are working hard at meeting your expectations and hope you are seeing the results in your childrens' development. |
